Photo: The Joy and Pain of Memory

I took this photo of the World Trade Centers on a beautiful summer evening from a tour boat on the Hudson River in the Summer of 2000.

New York City. A perfect sunset. The greatest city skyline in the world. Though I was in NYC for a legal seminar and to visit a client on a case, I didn't have a care in the world. It is one of the most perfect moments in my life, that cruise around Manhattan and catching the Twin Towers in golden light.

And a year later, they were gone in a hideous terrorist attack--and many of the people who worked in those towers.

Such is the joy and pain of memory.
